To get accepted into a graduate-level naturopathic medical program applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and have taken courses in biochemistry, general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, psychology, genetics, sociology and others. In North America, there are six institutions that are accredited by the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education, which is regulated by the US Department of Education. These institutions confer the degree of Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine on all its graduates. Those institutions are:

To become licensed naturopathic physicians, graduates must sit a rigorous two-part medical and clinical series of examinations set by the North American Board of Naturopathic Medical Examiners or NABNME.
